Ngorongoro Crater
You spend your first day in Tarangire National Park, dubbed by many as the elephant capital of Tanzania, where huge herds of animals move at will within the park, among the ancient baobab trees that populate the park like ancient guardians. When you relax into the rhythm of safari life with Kiwoito Africa Safaris, our seasoned guides will take you out on game drives in the morning and afternoon by the Tarangire River, which forms the life blood in the park and attracts the animals throughout the year, more so during the dry season when there is less water elsewhere in the park between June and October.
You will unquestionably see not only elephants, but giraffes bending over the acacia leaves, lions basking in the cool, and, possibly, even elusive leopards hiding in the trees. An important lesson here is that the park helps conserve the elephants; it has more than 3,000 of these docile animals and is one of the best places to see how a family works and how anti-poaching campaigns help in ensuring the safety of these elegant creatures. When the sun sets and stains the sky with tints of orange and pink, you will go to Marera Valley Lodge to spend the night.

On the 2 nd day you will head further into the bush to the Serengeti national park which is a UNESCO world heritage site; covering an area of almost 15,000 square kilometers of endless grasslands and which is home to one of the greatest spectacles in the world: the Great Migration of more than two million wildebeest, zebras and gazelles. During season you may also see crossings of the river when dangerous creatures like crocodiles and big cats are waiting to pounce, or just watch the all-year-round residents like cheetahs running across the plains in search of food.
Kiwoito Africa Safaris will make sure that your safari also includes some of the major sightseeing spots where our guides will show you some of the small signs of animal life, such as fresh footprints or even the sounds of birds that signal the presence of herds. Another tip is to make sure you have your camera by your side when you are out on the road, just in case you come across such spontaneous events like a pride of lion teaching its young ones to hunt, which brings out the circle of life in the Serengeti in its crude form. By evening, you will reach Zuri Camps in the Nyaruswiga Valley of the central Serengeti, a small tented camp in a picturesque setting with hills and featuring an access to prime game-viewing opportunities. Luxurious tents with en-suite bathrooms and small verandahs here are a comfortable escape and dining by the stars might include stories about local Maasai customs which give a cultural dimension to your experience.

The third day will keep you in the Serengeti and you will be able to explore its different ecosystems including the acacia-dotted savannas and rocky kopjes which can be used to view hyenas, buffalo, and rhinos. With Kiwoito Africa Safaris, this day is about flexibility; maybe begin with an early morning game drive when the animals are most active, capturing the golden light as it shines on herds as they graze in tranquility. The tips by our guides might also have the answers to how climate changes impact the migration patterns and the need to encourage environmentally-friendly tourism to maintain such a delicate balance.
You may also be lucky to spot a rare animal, such as a serval cat treading in the grass or flocks of colorful birds, and be reminded of the unbelievable biodiversity of the park with more than 500 types of birds. Afternoons can be spent on leisurely bush walks or on a tour of local research stations, where you hear about current work to track the population of big cats. You’re visiting Zuri Camps once again at night, and you will love the small-scale camp, with only a few tents creating the feeling of tranquility, and such facilities as hot showers that are run on solar energy and are environmentally friendly.

On the fourth and final day, you will explore the Ngorongoro Crater, a huge volcano caldera that practically acts as a natural fenced-in zoo, with an abundance of wildlife in one of the highest concentrations on Earth. As you plunge down the sheer side walls into this 600-meter-deep bowl, you will be astounded by this miniature: black rhinos in the open, flamingos in the soda lakes and hippo in the pools, all framed by lush forests and arid plains. Kiwoito Africa Safaris will organize a picnic lunch in this viewing environment to allow you to take time to appreciate the special geology of the crater that took millions of years to develop and its suitability as a habitat to endangered species. The interesting fact is that the crater has a self-contained ecosystem that allows predators and prey to be close to an eye view, without having to drive miles to see them. At the end of the day, you will climb up to leave, possibly with a last glimpse behind this marvel, your memories imbued with why a Tanzania safari with us is unique in its richness and integrity.
