Day by day

Day 1: Lake manyara national park.

Your safari will start with a drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a small but impressive park with a very high level of ecological diversity. There are few parks where tree-climbing lions are seen, and the large flocks of flamingos that frequent the park, tinting the shore with pink, are a feature.

It is one of the most scenic parks in Tanzania due to the contrasting landscapes among the ground water forests, open savannah and the Rift Valley escarpment. During your game drive, you might have to come across elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hippo and several primates such as blue monkeys and olive baboons.

You spend the day looking at the wildlife, and then in the evening, you go back to Marera Valley Lodge, deep in the green hills around Karatu. The lodge offers a calm experience, here you can rest before your next adventure.

Day 2: Serengeti National Park

You then head north to the Serengeti a UNESCO world heritage site and one of the most renowned wildlife reserves in the world. The Serengeti is associated with expansive savannahs interspersed with acacia trees, theatrical predator-prey relationships and the mythical Great Migration. You could also see thousands of wildebeests and zebras cross the plains depending on the season, accompanied by lions, cheetahs and hyenas.

Elephants, giraffes, leopards, buffaloes and thousands of species of birds can also be found in the park. In the evening you camp at Zuri Camps, a small tented camp, which is very comfortable yet in true safari style. The place is situated so that you can be close to nature, but with pleasant hospitality and fine food.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park

One day in the Serengeti will provide you with an opportunity to further venture into the center of the park. Game drives in the morning and afternoon show all the variety of life that flourishes here.

Most of the predators are at their peak in the early hours and so Sunrise drives are really rewarding. You may find herds of lions, leopards in the trees, or cheetahs searching the plains. Serengeti is also a prime birdwatching destination where kori bustards, secretary birds, and colorful rollers can be seen.

The enormity of the park will ensure that each drive is a surprise; it could be the elephants congregating at a waterhole or a herd of buffalo racing across the horizon. Your day has been rewarding and you spend another night at Zuri Camps under the African sky.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater, also known as the eighth wonder of the world, is the highlight of today. It is the largest intact volcanic caldera on earth whose dimension is approximated to be 19 kilometers in diameter and more than 600 meters in depth. Its closed ecosystem harbours a phenomenal concentration of wildlife and consequently it is one of the best places in Africa to see a concentration of wildlife in a single day.

Once down the crater, you will see herds of grazing wildebeests, zebras and gazelles and carnivores such as lions and hyenas. It is also one of the few locations that you are likely to see the endangered black rhino. The landscape is as intriguing as the wildlife, with its grasslands, freshwater lakes and swamps. You spend the entire day exploring and then head back to Marera Valley Lodge in Karatu to relax and get ready to recount the sightsees of the day.

Day 5: Tarangire National Park

On the last day of your safari, you visit Tarangire National Park, which is home to herds of elephants and baobab trees. Tarangire particularly is impressive in the dry season when animals flock around the Tarangire River.

Here, the elephants are shown digging water in the riverbeds, zebras, wildebeests, and antelopes surround them. Birdlife is also a great attraction in this park, with more than 500 species recorded, such as the spectacular yellow-collared lovebird and the lilac-breasted roller.

The scenery of Tarangire is interspersed with massive baobs and acacia trees, which provides a contrasting view than in the other parks. Once your last game drive is complete, your guide will drop you off at Arusha and your five-day safari with Kiwoito Africa Safaris will be over.
