Day 1: Arrival - Getting Ready For Adventure

You will start your adventure by landing on day one to a comfortable landing in Tanzania which could be through the Kilimanjaro International Airport and then taken to Arusha by a private transfer.

Arusha is referred to as the entry point to the northern safari circuit and provides a warm welcome to the colorful culture of the area and its rich environment. Rest in Under the Shade, a small lodge in ford of acacia trees, and a cool resting-place after your flight.

Spend the afternoon in local time; either take a stroll through the gardens of the lodge or have a light meal of fresh Tanzanian produce. This pre-acclimatization period is essential, as you are able to adapt to the elevation and be ready to experience the fun to come, as well as get advice on what to observe in the parks through your guide as to the seasonal movements of the animals depending on the rain patterns.

Accommodation: Under the shade

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 2-3: Tarangire National Park

The second day begins with a drive south to Tarangire National Park which is a low profile park usually lost in the shadows of its more popular neighbors but admired by the large herds of elephants and ancient baobab trees that mark the horizon like guard posts. During the following two days, you will explore in-depth the different ecosystems of this park, including river valleys with an abundant population of birds to the open savanna grassland where lions roam.

Your base, Tarangire Osupuko Lodge, is located on the peri-fringes of the park and you can get a breathtaking view and even listen to the animal calls in the night through the veranda.

Mornings begin with game drives in which giraffes can be seen browsing on the tops of trees and possibly a glimpse of a python coiled up on a branch.

Afternoons can be used to do bush walks with Maasai guides who can tell stories about their lives in harmony with wildlife and how the swamps at Tarangire supply the entire year with water sources that host more than 500 species of birds. The evenings end up around the campfire, where everyone talks of the best moments of the day, including how the park is involved in the conservation of the elephants, in the face of poaching threats.

Accommodation: Osupoku Lodge

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4-5: Full Exploration Of Ngorongoro Crater

On day four, the trip changes to the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Africa’s most condensed wildlife arenas. The creation of this colossal caldera which was a result of a collapsed volcano millions of years ago forms the natural enclosure of the predators and prey which is in dramatic nature.

Day four and five: Day four and five here in full immersion, walking down to the bottom of the crater to have close encounters with the big five: lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards and buffalo. Ang’ata Ngorongoro with its lodge standing on the rim of the crater gives stunning views and a feeling of seclusion with tents that are in tune with both comfort and nature.

Early excursions get first in line, and you can watch the flamingo on the soda lake, or the hyena scavenging the dawn. Local knowledge illuminates the special dynamics of the micro climate surrounding the crater, the reasons they can have such large populations in such a small area, and the conservation efforts in preserving the black rhinos which are on the verge of extinction. In between drives, rest with spa treatments that are based on traditional remedies or go to a local Maasai village to get to know more about their pastoral way of life thus giving a cultural touch to your wildlife interest.

Accommodation: Ang’ata Ngorongoro

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6-8: Serengeti National Park

The climax of the safari takes place between day six to eight in the Serengeti national park, the ideal of wild Africa with its plentiful expansive grasslands that are home to the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebras. This large area with approximately 15,000 square kilometers of size provides the limitless possibilities in seeing cheetahs hunting or prides of lions resting in the shade.

Your mobile-style rooms known as Zuri Camps move with the seasons to put you at the center of the action and provide an intimate eco-friendly stay in canvas tents that will help you listen to the wildness.

One day leads to another: one day aerial sightseeing by a balloon of the plains in the morning, the following day a second day searching the river banks with crocodiles hiding, lastly, nighttime sightseeing of animals that cannot be easily spotted, such as aardvarks.

Some of the most important findings are the timing of the migration, which is precipitated by rains and grasses, as this ensures the balance of the ecosystem. Using generations of experience, your guides indicate even the smallest clues such as vulture circles indicating a kill and make every field trip a lesson in the web of nature.

Day 9: Return To Arusha - Farewell

Your last day is day nine, which is the journey back to Arusha but it is a reflective one as it goes through scenic highlands where coffee plantations and local farms are located.

Get there mid-morning and spend your time in enriching experiences that complete your safari, including a visit to the busy markets of Arusha to experiment with the hand-made crafts or a short coffee tour to sample some of the beans growing on the slopes of Mount Meru. These are experiences that give an idea of the day to day life of the Tanzanian people, including how to negotiate the beads used to make jewelry, and how sustainable farming can help communities. Lunch at a nearby restaurant enjoying ugali and grilled meat, then your transfer to the airport will see you out off smoothly leaving behind you the memories of the unmatched wilderness in Tanzania.

This trip does not just provide memorable sights but it also brings about a greater understanding of the importance of conservation because by visiting each park you help to preserve these wonders to be enjoyed by the generations to come. Safe journeys and your stories can inspire people to visit this wonderful place.
