Crescent Island is one of the scenic and breathtaking wildlife sanctuary situated along Lake Naivasha one of the most stunning freshwater lakes in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley region. Crescent Island is such a secretive yet scenic destination to explore while on your next Kenya adventurous safari.  The Island is a peninsula surrounded by the waters of Lake Naivasha and can only and only be accessed by boat transfer along Lake Naivasha. Crescent Island can be explored any time of the day by having a picnic lunch on this wonderful and peaceful island as you watch beautiful creatures that thrive within including animals such as Gazelles, Impalas, Wildebeests, Dik- Dik, jackals, Giraffes, Zebras, Hippos and waterbucks among others, bird species especially the water birds like Pelicans, Cormorants and stunning view of flora species.

GETTING THERE

As stated earlier on, Getting to Crescent Island is only by boat transfer. Several operators provide services of boat rides to and from Crescent Island. Since the Island is situated between water, that means that to get there, you will need to pay for a boat ride either from EAST or WEST depending on where you are located. However, keep in mind that the only amount payable during the transfer is for the boat transfer and it excludes the entrance fees which are ONLY paid upon arrival at the entrance of Crescent Island. You may choose to combine your boat transfer to Crescent Island with a 1-hour boat cruise among the beautiful Lake Naivasha. Some of the recommended companies that offer boat transfers to Crescent Island include; Lake Naivasha Country Club, Buffalo Boat Safari, Marina Boat Safaris, 45 Beach (Kimani), Stanley,  Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge, Hippo Safaris, Camp Carnelleys among others.  Different operators charge different prices so there is no fixed price for the boat transfer to and from the Island though the price ranges from 20$ to 50$

These entrance fees to Crescent Island are for the year 2021 to the end of June 2022. These rates, however, can change at any given period without prior notice;

Note:

In the case of a group of school pupils/ students,

Primary pupils pay 250 KES per pupil in a group, Secondary school in a group pay 350 KES per student in a group and the teachers pay 450 KES per teacher with a group of pupils/students and finally a guide/ driver will pay 500 KES. For such cases, there is a need for an advance booking via mail to organize this trip to Crescent Island.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE;

  1. Crescent Island opens on a daily at 9:00 am and closes at 5:00 pm
  2. Entrance fees MUST be paid at the Island
  3. Pets are NOT allowed at Crescent Island
  4. Tour guides are available at Crescent Island, However, since they are few, they will depend on a first come first serve basis since they are free of charge though you may tip them to make them feel loved while at their professional job.
  5. You are advised to leave the Island as early as 5 pm
  6. There are currently no accommodation facilities at Crescent Island thus no overnights over there. You may only enjoy a picnic-packed lunch.
