7 DAYS SELOUS UDZUNGWA MIKUMI

SELOUS, UDZUNGWA & MIKUMI OVERVIEW

This trip take you from Dar es Salaam to Selous Game reserve. A 5 – 6 hours’ drive in to the wild bush, colored with the clear blue water in the mighty Rufiji River. The park is bushy with lots of small lakes and some open areas. After 3 days, you move onwards, over the Uluguru Mountains to the farming town called Morogoro and then onwards to Mikumi National Park where you will enjoy a different scenery and game drive in the open steps of Mikumi National Park. Mikumi – also known as “little Serengeti” is a park with lots of animals, well developed roads and the open flood plains give you a great view of the animals. One of the days you visit Udzungwa Mountains National Park for a refreshing walk in the rain forest.

DAY 1: DEPART TO SELOUS GAME RESERVE & AN EVENING BOAT SAFARI

Pick you up at the hotel in Dar es Salaam at 7:30 am, and drive 5 – 6 hours to Selous Game Reserve, arriving at lunch. On arrival, check-in and have lunch at Selous Kinga Lodge. After lunch, go for an evening boat safari through the Great Rufiji River. Here you can experience the aquatic life mostly crocodiles and hippos, also you can see some animals come for drinking, also you can see uncountable number of bird species  since the reserve has over 440 known species of birds while enjoying an amazing reserve’s sunset. Back in the late evening for dinner and stay the night at Selous river camp (FB).

DAY 2: FULL DAY GAME DRIVE AT SELOUS GAME RESERVE

Early breakfast at 07.00 and then depart to the Selous Game Reserve. All day game drive in a specially modified safari vehicle with a professional guide, in which you should see and learn much about a large number of animals, including all the great favorites lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra – and all the other major species including the now rare African hunting dog. Great variety of bird species. Wonderful scenery, with varied topography: wetlands, dry grassland, light acacia forest and higher ground with long views to far-off mountains. Packed lunch and time to rest. Your guide will select a location with shade and water nearby to watch animals coming to drink a place with a clear view all round so that no predator can creep up unseen! Back to the lodge by 6.30 for sunset and dinner when you’re ready at Africa Safari Selous river camp (FB).

DAY 3: EARLY MORNING WALKING SAFARI & A FULL DAY GAME DRIVE AT SELOUS GAME DRIVE

An early morning walking safari with a Bushman to the reserve’s environment to learn various histories (including traditional trees for medicines, various animals footprints and other small animals which you cannot see during the game drive). Back to the camp for breakfast. After breakfast, go fo a full day game drive across the enormous Selous Game Reserve with packed lunch boxes until sunset to once again experience the wildlife. Back in the late evening at the lodge for your hot dinner and stay the overnight at Selous river camp (FB).

DAY 4: DEPART TO UDZUNGWA MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, depart to Udzungwa Mountains National Park (6 -7 hours drive) with packed lunch boxes. On arrival check-in and stay the overnight at Udzungwa Forest Camp (FB).

DAY 5: A HIKE TO UDZUNGWA MOUNTAINS – THE POPULAR SANJE WATERFALLS & DEPART TO MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK.

After an early breakfast, hiking through the beautiful forests and landscape scenery of Udzungwa Mountains with packed lunch boxes with a professional guide, on the way you will learn about various trees used for traditional healings, a bird life while heading to the top for a great and an amazing view of the ‘Sanje Waterfalls’ And when on top of the Waterfall, you can have a great view of the enormous Kilombero Sugarcane Valley (one of the biggest Tanzania’s sugarcane plantation). Back from the mountain in the late afternoon, and depart for Mikumi National Park (a 2hours’ drive) arriving in the early evening, check-in at the lodge and have your hot
dinner, then spend the overnight at Camp Bastian (FB).

DAY 6: FULL DAY GAME DRIVE AT MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, go for a full day game drive at the beautiful Mikumi National Park with packed lunch boxes to once again experience the wildlife until evening. Back in the late evening, . Mikumi National Park: During game drive at the park, you can see a rich variety of bird species, as well as large numbers of giraffe, buffalo and elephants. You may also be able to spot lions, leopards and African wild dogs. Likely to be seen animals include zebras, hippos, hartebeest, wildebeest, impala, warthog, eland and antelope.

Dinner and overnight at Camp Bastian (FB).

DAY 7: HALF DAY GAME DRIVE AT MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK & DEPART TO DAR ES SALAAM

After breakfast, go for a half day game drive at Mikumi National Park until noon. Later, drive for 5 – 6 hours back to Dar es Salaam with a stop for lunch on the way, arriving in the evening, transfer you to the hotel/catch your flight back home (breakfast & lunch included)
